A Century of Changes. 1916 – 2016
Senior students remember 1916 in style
A unique model of the G.P.O. in the aftermath of the 1916 Easter Rising has been created by our senior J.C.S.P. students with help from our special needs assistants Noelle and Shane and their teachers Ms. O’Hanlon and Mrs. O’Leary as part of this year Make A Book project.
The building was constructed using a variety of recycled materials including cardboard boxes, paper, bubble wrap, paint, cotton wool, sticks, stones and more.
The windows were printed from the internet, laminated and then cut to show how glass was broken in order to allow the Rebels to shoot into the streets.
Damage to the surrounding buildings was extensive in 1916, this too is very evident from our model. Realistic sound effects were created using our special low tech communication buttons. Students also compiled two books as part of the Make A Book Project: ‘A Brief History of the Easter Rising’ and the second ‘Then and Now’ 1916-2016 : A comparison between living in 1916-2016.
The G.P.O. in the aftermath of the Rising was on display in the City Hall recently as part of the Make A Book Exhibition. The model is now on display in our school and can be viewed by appointment.
